The ranch is located in Arizona near New Mexico, 45 miles up the road from old Mexico. The horses run natural on 320 acres in a valley nestled between the Chiricahua Mtn and the Penocillo Range. The Spanish Barb horses are the horses that became the basis for the American Indian herds. These now endangered few herds are few and far between. Our herd is traced back to the Father Kino line. Here at the Chiricahua Mountain Spanish Barbs ranch we prefer the nature way, we ride with no bits and no horse shoes. These horses are gentle and friendly, when you meet this breed you can understand how the native Americans tamed this wild horse. You will see why they were sometimes called dog ponies.
